Rob Padron was born in Camagüey, Cuba. He builds his career two hundred miles and one ocean away, financing homes for the families who came the same way.
That is the part of this job he takes personally. A mortgage is the paperwork. What it buys is the address you finally get to call yours.
He works in English and Spanish, and he answers his own phone.
South Florida, at the beginning of the biggest housing run the state had ever seen.
The Florida Association of Mortgage Professionals. He would spend the next two decades inside it.
The crash took the industry apart. He left it for about three years. Most of the people who sold you a loan in 2006 never came back. He did.
Treasurer, then Secretary, then Vice President, then President of the Miami chapter. Twice.
He helped re-write the statute that governs loan originators and mortgage brokers in this state. The rules his competitors work under, he had a hand in writing.
